No More Plastic Bags.. 1st July 2008!

Posted on June 21, 2008

Well, the date is near and the countdown continues as some of Bahrain’s biggest hyper and super markets will stop giving out free plastic bags and provide alternatives.

We are hoping to mark this occassion by possibly going down to Geant or Jawad’s and use their new cloth bags or reuse some old ones! If you would like to join us or have any suggestions and ideas please email us at nomoreplasticbags@gmail.com

Once sorted, we will post exactly what we will be doing on 1st July

So save the dates my friends and participate in making Bahrain a more environmentally friendly place!

Am happy to see anti plastics campaign gaining momentum around the world.

You may want to view and use a presentation made by me on the same topic and which has gained good momentum around the world.

The link to the same is http://ramjeenagarajan.blogspot.com/2008/06/say-no-to-plastics.html
also I’ve uploaded it as video file on you tube:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bF7LgTL6rGU from where you could get the file linked to or downloaded and uploaded on your site.

If you wish to embed it on your site please do that using the following url code http://www.youtube.com/v/bF7LgTL6rGU&hl=en

    Thank you.

    With kind regards,

I’m in the UK right now but have been keeping in touch with whats going on back in Bahrain. Imagine my horror when I saw the headline on the Gulf Weekly website this week. I can’t believe that Geant are backing down over charging for their plastic bags because the meat-heads who shop there complained. Geant, scared of losing custom, have now abandoned plans to charge for bags and encourage customers to use jute bags.

I’m ashamed of Bahrain. I think the only way forward is for ALL supermarkets to adopt the same policy and then customers will just have to get used to using reusable bags rather than taking their custom elsewhere.
